Students from Trinity Christian School, Apopka, Florida recently visited Port Canaveral on a field trip accompanied by parents and teachers. The Canaveral Pilots helped to coordinate the visit and helped give the group a tour of the harbor aboard Space Coast River Tour’s “Blue Dolphin” along with Captain Mark and First Mate Michelle. The timing of the visit could not have worked out more perfectly. The students were able to observe the arrival and docking of a tanker and were able to listen to the communication on the VHF radio between the Pilot on board the ship and the assisting tugboats. The tour included details on many of the other vessels in Port, including cruise ships, container ships, dredges, and tugs and barges of different types. The group was able to observe cargo operations being conducted by a container ship. Another highlight of the tour was observing the wildlife found in the Port including dolphins and sea turtles. Following the harbor tour, the students enjoyed lunch and then an afternoon at Port Canaveral’s Exploration Tower. Thanks to the parents for providing some of the photos included with this post.
