Canaveral Pilot Capt. Richard Grimison has been recognized by the International Propeller Club as “2017 International Member of the Year”.  The award was presented by International Executive Vice President Andrew Riester at the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral’s Annual Education Luncheon held on May 2, 2018 at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill in Port Canaveral.  Riester also gave an award to the club as “2017 International Propeller Club of the Year”.  In giving the awards, he cited the club’s hard work in hosting the 2017 International Propeller Club Convention last October and Grimison’s leadership of those efforts.  The convention featured high-powered speakers including Florida Governor Rick Scott, Commandant of the Coast Guard ADM Paul Zukunft, and Maritime Administrator RADM Mark Buzby, USN (Ret.).  Grimison has been a pilot at Port Canaveral for almost 18 years, served as a pilot at the Panama Canal for 3 years and sailed deep sea Merchant Marine for 11 years prior to becoming a pilot.  He is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.  Grimison serves as the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral Education Committee Chair supporting programs including the Rockledge High School HELM Maritime Studies Program and the Propeller Club Scholarship program for graduating Brevard County seniors furthering their education in maritime related career fields.   The International Propeller Club is a business network dedicated to promoting the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade.  Chapters are located at most major U.S. ports and around the world.  For more information visit and
