Capt. Richard Grimison of the Canaveral Pilots Association recently attended the 88th Annual International Propeller Club of the United States convention in Louisville, KY. Capt. Grimison currently serves as the President of the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral. The International Propeller Club is a business networking organization which support the maritime industry, global commerce, and international trade. The Port Canaveral club supports Port Canaveral and local maritime and port area businesses and port stakeholders. The theme of this year’s annual convention was “Rivers of Trade, Linking America’s Heartland to the World.” The event coincided with the Centennial Festival of Riverboats celebrating the 1ooth anniversary of the Belle of Louisville, the oldest operating steamboat in the U.S. Distinguished speakers at the convention included Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky, Radm Kevin Cook, USCG, Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Eighth District, and Maritime Administrator Chip Jaenichin. Other highlights from the convention included a cruise on a riverboat through the McAlpine Locks on the Ohio River, viewing the launch of a new tank barge at Jeffboat and a special appearance by Mark Twain.
